PROS & CONS

VERY high base Speed

Has the stigma debuff (which halves enemy healing and Combat Readiness increase)

Penetrates defense on his s1

Has AoE Immunity and self-attack buff on his s2

Due to his non-attacking s2, he can get punished for using it before he can use his s3

The defense break chance on his s3 isn't 100%, making it a little unreliable

20% Defense penetrate isn't THAT much (but it's still better than nothing)

Tier List Description

(Updated 10/28/21)

Ran isn’t a game-breaking unit such as Rem, but he does his job very well. It’s pretty obvious as to what kind of unit Ran is – he’s a very fast unit for cleave teams. Sporting a very high base Speed of 129 and his two attacking skills scaling off of Speed, Ran’s damage is very good to have in a cleave team. On top of that, he can even set up the rest of his team – his s2 gives his entire team Immunity, and his s3 removes buffs while also having a chance to decrease Defense for 2 turns.

He also the sort-of-unique debuff, Stigma, on his s3. As of this writing, only he and Melany have this debuff; Stigma decreases the amount of Combat Readiness the target receives by 50%, and also blocks the amount they’re healed by 50%. Overall, Ran is a pretty decent unit for PVP cleave teams, though he isn’t the best in PVE. Surprisingly, though, some people have found a use out of Ran in W13, however there are still much better choices for damage than Ran.

Build Notes

It’s very easy to stack Speed on Ran, due to his high Base Speed. However, these builds are considered an end-game Ran build, and may not be achievable if you’re a newer player. If so, then the Ran build’s stats should be considered to be more as a goalpost to work towards.

The final Ran build to work towards is going to look around the lines of:

  • 300+ Speed
  • 3,000+ ATK
  • 85% Crit Rate at the bare minimum (100% is highly recommended)
  • 260%+ Crit Damage

RECOMMENDED ARTIFACTS

Sets up for Another Ally
When Ran uses his s2, this one will help buff up the next cleaving unit in the team (e.g. Blood Blade Karin) for after he gets his turn.
ATK + Crit Chance
Alexa's Basket is a very good artifact for Thieves, and Ran's no different. It could help buff his damage even more.
Hit Chance + Damage
[Acquired in Guild Shop] A Symbol of Unity is always a good artifact for a cleaver unit, and Ran is no different. It'll increase his hit chance and damage.

RAN'S
SKILL ENHANCEMENTS

His top priority for skillups is his s2 first and then his S3. S3 needs to be skilled up to at least +5 for the full effect chance and for the 1 turn cooldown. However, it's recommended to +15 him in the end, as he's built to cleave and needs all the damage he can get.
