Tier List Description

[12/19/2024 Patch]: His passive now gains an evasion buff at the start of battle and he can lifesteal a bit with his S1.

It’s been about two weeks since Closer Charles has released, and the consensus is out: his s3 animation is pretty sloppily done, but his skillset by itself is decent. He’s cemented a decent spot in cleave teams, which seems to be getting more and more counters with each new unit. C.Charles isn’t going to be an utter game-breaker such as, say, Rem; however he can be an opener or a turn-2 unit, meaning he’d need some other unit to be an opener.

Like Violet, he can trigger Perception on himself, and also does good things with said Perception. He can also decrease the cooldown of his s3 via killing with his s1 while he has perception, but that is a bit of a difficult condition to trigger.

In short, Closer Charles is made for cleaving in late-game Arena, and as such this build page will treat his optimal build as if you have very late-game gear. These stats are not going to be immediately achievable for a new player.

Build Notes

There’s two real ways you can build Closer Charles, and the difference between them is just a matter of his Speed (and maybe his ATK to a lesser extent). The General Speed Build is the best way to go, with a focus on Crit Rate%, Crit DMG%, ATK% and Speed as the substats to look for. Seeing as he doesn’t have any debuffs to worry about, Effectiveness isn’t necessary, and Resistance would just be kind of wasted, considering the Evasion in his kit.

If you’re going for making Closer Charles a turn 1 opener, the stats to look for is about:

  • 280+ Speed
  • 3,000~ ATK
  • 85% Crit Rate (although 100% is optimal)
  • 250% Crit DMG

For Closer Charles being a second turn cleaver, his stats will be:

  • 3,500+ ATK
  • 200 Speed
  • 100% Crit Rate
  • 280%+ Crit DMG (300% is optimal)

RECOMMENDED ARTIFACTS

Extra Evasion
One of the more obvious choices for Closer Charles. Since he grants Evasion on his s3, Moonlight Dreamblade will stack even more Evasion on him, giving him almost a 70% chance to Evade when +30'd.
Combat Readiness
[Acquired in Guild Shop] War Horn has emerged as a pretty decent artifact on Closer Charles, due to increasing all his allies' ATK, along with his own Combat Readiness every 3 enemy turns.
Penetrates Defense
Elyha's Knife is one of the better damage-dealing artifacts for Charles, since his s3 is AoE and this artifact penetrates defense by 20% when +30'd.

Sharply cuts the enemy. When used on the caster's turn, if the caster is granted perception, uses Demolition instead of Elimination. Demolition: Attacks the enemy with a sword, absorbing some of the damage dealt as Health. Damage dealt increases proportional to the target's lost Health.
